Marquez Williams
50 days until the NFL season starts off with the cheaters and the Andy Reiders. I don’t think that will be much of a game, the Patriots have some notable adds this off season with Brandin Cooks and Dwayne Allen for offensive gains and Stephon Gilmore and Kony Ealy on the defensive side of the ball. The chiefs… well, umm… they extended Andy Reid and his clock management skills, fired their GM and got rid of their best receiver in Maclin… so… the real games start in 53 days.

As for the Jaguars, the rookies reported to camp today and there are some really exciting things to watch for. First round pick, Leonard Fournette, is expected to be the work load of this team. If I’m the Jaguars, I have him on the field in training camp for a limited amount of snaps. Why? Because Jaguars. And Dante Fowler. And Jalen Ramsey (turned out fine). Fournette should be a late first round pick in fantasy football this year because Bortles throws will be, and should be, cut in half. Second round pick Cam Robinson was a huge steal in the draft and is an immediate upgrade to the OLine, helping Fournette thrive. As long as Robinson can keep a good work ethic, he has the ability to be one of the best rookies in the league at his position. The rookie player that I am most excited about outside of our first and second round pick is Marquez Williams, Fullback from The U. It’s been a long time since the Jaguars have incorporated a fullback into their offensive scheme and this guy is HUGE. Instantly helps out in the red zone, which Lord knows the Jaguars struggle in (CC: Toby Gerhart 1st and goal, 2nd and goal, 3rd and goal… 4th and goal…).

Fantasy Football drafts will be starting soon and I’m gonna go ahead and say draft David Johnson in the first few picks. The guy is an underrated monster who doubled his TDs from 2015 from 8 to 16 in 2016. Barring injury, he could carry your team through the playoffs.

Finally, I would like to introduce you all to a special child each week. Pediatric cancer awareness has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. It’s the reason I went into nursing and why I’ve continued my education in nursing. Did you know that every two minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer? That means 25,000 kids around the world will hear the words “you have cancer” this month alone (St Baldrick’s Foundation).. Of all cancer funding and research, only 4% percent of its annual budget is dedicated to childhood cancer. I encourage you all to do some research, find your passion and then fight like hell to make it better. My hearts desire is to find a cure for childhood cancer.

Meet Charlie.

Charlie is a 1.5 year old little girl from a small town in upstate NY who was just diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). (Please visit https://www.cancer.gov/types/leukemia/patient/child-all-treatment-pdq to learn more about this disease). Charlie had been having intermittent fevers, no appetite and not acting herself. Her parents took her to urgent care, who sent them home and encouraged them to follow up with a pediatrician. That night, her parents noticed petechia (small spots on the skin as a result of bleeding) on her abdomen and mutually decided to drive her 45 minutes to the children’s hospital, where after hours of tests and labs, they received the dreaded diagnosis.  Charlie and her parents had just welcomed a sweet little boy into their family 1 month prior to this diagnosis.  Their family has been told they will have at least 2.5 years of chemo and radiation, meaning they will be driving 45 minutes as often as needed for 2.5 years, barring any set backs. Financial aspects of a devastating disease should be the last thing any family has to worry about. Please consider sending prayers, positive vibes and good thoughts to Charlie and her family, if you wish to donate to their uphill battle, please do-so here. ( https://www.gofundme.com/charlie-peters-leukemia-fund ) If you can donate, that’s wonderful, but the real point is to get you to understand the statistics associated with this awful disease and inspire you to create change *NO CHILD FIGHTS ALONE**

  1. An area that concerns me is special teams—can Jason Myers be reliable on PATs and FGs under 40 yards? Also the punt and kickoff coverage needs improvement. Maybe Westbrook will be the burner/returner we need. Good convo so far

    1. I agree. One of the best things the jags did this offseason was fire special teams coach Mike Mallory and bring in quick players (Westbrook, Brown, Myrick) I think this is the make or break year for Myers, if he isn’t able to perform at a high level I believe we let him go
